History

In 1967, when the Six-Day War broke out, Sisters of Saint Elizabeth had already been running two houses for pilgrims in Jerusalem. This short but very cruel Israeli-Arab war left many children as orphans, deprived of their homes, their families and means of support.

Sister Rafała and Sister Imelda, who had already  been conducting educational activities among poor children, rented three empty rooms  in a Muslim house that was located on the slope of the Mount of Olives. It was there that most forlorn children found their asylum. Over time, Sisters collected sufficient funds to start building their own house.

Thus began a beautiful and amazing history of the origins of Home of Peace at the Mount of Olives; a story full of great difficulties and adversities, but also full of extraordinary kindness and generosity shown by many people. A story that, from the very beginning till the present day, was written by THE HAND OF GOD’S PROVIDENCE, written in golden letters of LOVE on the cards of difficult history of the Holy Land.
